Design
This stunning coin captures the magic of the Southern Lights both in its colour and its shimmering surface. The Southern Lights can range in colour from pink to green to purple, with the colours dependent on a number of factors. The type of solar wind particle, the type of gas molecule and the electrical state at the time of the collision all have an effect on the eventual colour of the aurora.
This 1oz silver proof coin has been produced using a holographic foiling technique in an effort to capture the magical shimmering of the Southern Lights. It features the picturesque Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo where the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve is located. This coin is limited to just 1,500 worldwide and would make a splendid edition to any collection.
